  • Reasons you should invest in it

Helpful Guide for Planned maintenance and your forklift

You’ve invested thousands of dollars into your forklifts for the company, and you rely on them daily to get the job done. The last thing you need is unnecessary downtime to prevent the job from getting done. Planned Maintenance plans help you avoid this issue and many others. Signing up for a PM plan can benefit your forklift greatly throughout its working life.  Aside from less downtime, you can increase the life of the truck with scheduled maintenance and routine inspections.

PM INSPECTIONS

Proper planned maintenance requires a thorough inspection of the lift truck. If your current service provider can’t provide you with a PM inspection form, they may not be treating your fleet properly. These inspections can help pinpoint any current issues or in many cases, prevent issues from occurring.

COMPLETION RATE

You pay for what you get. When signing up for a planned maintenance plan, you’re scheduled for routine  inspections/forklift repairs. The completion rate is for you to compare what’s been scheduled and what tasks have already been completed on the forklifts. Accountability is key in a PM plan to assure your fleet is treated with the right service at the scheduled times.

REDUCED COSTS

A PM plan, when performed properly, is meant to  keep your fleet up and running, and reduce costs down the road. During the life of your planned maintenance, your fleet will go through a vast array of upkeep. Technicians will routinely check that your tires are still good to use. They will also examine your forklift parts to make sure they’re not worn, or need to be replaced. In addition, points of friction will be properly lubricated to prevent any breakdowns and increased cost of maintenance.

OSHA RECOMMENDED

Even though planned maintenance is not required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, it is highly recommended. OSHA views a PM plan as a form of hazard protection. Proper maintenance can help assure that each forklift or piece of equipment is running on par with OSHA regulations. This can help your company avoid legal issues and fines for failing to comply with these regulations.
